The department caters to patients admitted in various specialities of SKIMS, Soura and SKIMS Medical College hospital. In addition , the department also provides diagnostic support to associated hospitals of other medical colleges of the state and other health-care institutions. Also drug susceptibility testing for M.tuberclosis by modified proportion method has been standardized in the department. Presently this department  is the only centre in the whole  J&K state where this facility is available.
